This Apprentice Program that these students are involved in began in San Antonio, Texas with taking my Total Window Makeover Course, as part of a program initiated by the city’s Historic Preservation Department. Those who took my class qualified to participate in a paid apprenticeship with me for 10 weeks. Having completed their 10 weeks with me, they deserved recognition. This video captured that moment of recognition.
The initial 10 week apprenticeship having reached its goal, is now extending into the next 10 weeks, also paid, but at a higher rate of pay. This will continue every 10 Weeks for a total of fifty weeks, with each successfully completed segment followed by an increase in pay.
The ultimate goal is to create artisans skilled in window craft who could not only work in this particular trade, but could enter practically any of the historic house trades, as historic windows, an optimal blend of practical woodworking and performance/protective painting, are a microcosm of old house skills.
This apprenticeship program I’m creating is well underway, but needs refining before I’m willing to really market it to the public. However, if you or someone you know is interested in a trade that serves as an entry into the arena of all old house trades, reach out to me and let’s talk about how to get you or that person you know plugged in.
