How to Open a Stuck Sash Window

Learn how to open a lower sash window that is stuck for improved airflow and safety. Old wood windows have often been painted shut, which is very unsafe in an emergency.

Note: Original wood windows were made to be repaired, NOT replaced, and they were designed to be maintained from the inside of your home--even better! The window in this video is around 135 years old.

For this video, I used five tools:

1. Hammer

2. Utility Knife

3. Hive Tool (You may substitute a rigid putty knife.)

4. Window Zipper

5. Screwdriver with a slotted screw bit
